Flip video mirror it or turn it upside down

Selfie video where all the text reads backwards?

Footage that came out upside down? Pick mirror or top to bottom and get it back the right way round. Free, and nothing is written over your original.

Every converter here is free, full size, no account. Photos convert in your browser and never leave it, except camera RAW files and SVG tracing. Those, like video, audio and e-books, need our server — and we delete them right after.

Mirroring is not the same as rotating

Rotating turns the whole picture like a steering wheel; mirroring swaps left and right, the way a mirror does. People often mix the two up, but they're different fixes: if the words in your video read backwards, mirroring is what you need, and rotating won't touch that. Looking to flip a video 90 degrees specifically? That's a rotation, not a flip — use rotate a video instead.

How to flip a video, on whatever you're using
  1. Drop the video on the box above (on a phone, tap it and pick the clip).
  2. Pick mirror (left to right) or top to bottom (upside down).
  3. Download the flipped MP4. Your original isn't touched.

That's how to flip a video in a browser on a computer, Android or an iPhone. This video flipper handles exactly two moves; want to mirror videos from a front camera, pick mirror. Some people call this to invert video, but it doesn't invert the colours: to invert here means mirror or upside down. There's no Android flip video app to install: open this page in Chrome or Safari on your phone. It's free, with no watermark, for files up to 1200 MB and 20 minutes.

Why front cameras record mirrored

Your phone shows you a mirrored preview while filming, because that's what you're used to from an actual mirror. Most phones then save the unmirrored version — but not all, and some apps do the opposite. That's why a selfie video sometimes has backwards text while the preview looked fine. To flip video horizontally, pick mirror: that swaps left and right back. Some tools, such as the Clideo flip video page, call the same option "mirror" rather than "flip".

Same problem, one still photo instead of a clip: PicReviver's flip tool mirrors a photo back the right way, free and in the browser.

About your file

Flipping means re-encoding the picture, which a browser can't do, so your video is uploaded to our own machine, flipped there, and deleted immediately afterwards. Limits: 1200 MB and 20 minutes on the free tier.

Flip an animated GIF, not just a video

Drop a GIF instead of a video and the mirror or upside-down option applies the same way — the animation comes back as a real, moving GIF, not a single frozen frame. It's the same flip tool for both.

Only need to cut the frame down instead of mirroring it? Crop video does that. Just trimming the length instead? Trim video handles that separately. Need it turned 90 degrees instead? Rotate video does that.

Common questions

How do I mirror or flip a video?

Drop it in, leave the setting on left-to-right and download the result: a horizontal flip that swaps left and right, so a person looking left now looks right. That is how to flip video online, and how to flip a video around for an edit where two shots should face each other; a video flip needs no account, no watermark and no software. How do I flip a video that plays upside down? Pick top-to-bottom instead. How do you flip a video on a computer, and how can you flip a video on a phone? The same way, in any browser, which is also how to flip the video of a selfie that reads backwards. As for how flip video jobs treat the sound, see below.

Will the quality drop?

One pass is re-encoded at a high bitrate, so there's no visible difference in normal viewing. Only flipping the same file over and over would start to show; flip from the original instead.

Does the sound stay, and is it mirrored too?

The audio is copied across untouched: flipping changes the picture only, and stereo left and right stay where they were.

What's the difference with rotating?

Mirroring swaps left and right. Rotating turns the picture 90 or 180 degrees.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no daily limit; flip videos back to back, each comes back as its own MP4.

What formats can I use?

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI go in; you get an MP4 back.

How do I flip a video on an iPhone or Android?

Open this page in Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on Android, pick the video from your camera roll, choose mirror or upside-down and download; no app needed. How can I flip a video in the Photos app instead? On an iPhone, open it in Photos, tap Edit, then the crop icon, and use the flip button at the top; that works for one clip, while this page also handles a batch or a computer.

What does flipping a video mean?

Usually a horizontal flip: the picture is mirrored so left becomes right. Use it to fix selfie videos that look backwards, or to create a video mirror effect. A vertical flip turns it upside down instead.

Can I flip a video vertically, upside down or sideways?

Yes: pick the top-to-bottom option and the picture is flipped upside down, which is the same as flip vertical; the left-to-right option mirrors it horizontally. A video that plays on its side, sideways, needs rotating, not mirroring: run it through the rotate tool first, and come back here only if it also reads backwards.

How to flip a video on YouTube?

You can't on YouTube itself: YouTube Studio's editor has no flip. Flip your original file here and upload it again as a new video.

How to flip a video on a Mac or in Windows?

Drop the file in here in any browser. A Mac can also do it itself: QuickTime Player has Edit, Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical, and you then export the mirror video. On Windows, the built-in Clipchamp editor can flip a clip; this page does it without opening an editor.

Can I flip videos in a batch?

One at a time: flip videos back to back, there's no daily cap. Each comes back as its own MP4.

Can I mirror flip a video and rotate it too?

Mirror flip video first here, then use the rotate tool for 90 degrees: a flip rotate video job takes two passes, and each pass is one click. A video mirror flip is exactly what fixes a selfie clip, so flip selfie videos here first; to mirror flip a video that's also sideways, rotate it afterwards.

Can I flip a GIF too?

Yes: flip GIF files the same way. Drop a GIF in and a flipped GIF comes back, still moving.
