One thing to know for vertical video: the height you pick is the long side. A vertical clip resized to 1080 comes out 608x1080, not 1080x1920. TikTok and YouTube Shorts want 1080x1920, so if your phone clip is already that size, upload it as it is; if it's 4K vertical, it's bigger than needed but both apps accept it and scale it down themselves.
