MOV to MP4 plays everywhere, not just on Apple

Drop in a MOV from an iPhone, a Mac or a screen recorder and get an MP4 back, the format almost everything else expects.

WEBM and MKV are in the list too. Converting from AVI instead? There is a dedicated AVI to MP4 page. No account, no watermark.

Every converter here is free, full size, no account. Photos convert in your browser and never leave it, except camera RAW files and SVG tracing. Those, like video, audio and e-books, need our server, and we delete them right after.

How to convert MOV to MP4: drop the MOV in, leave the menu on MP4, and the download starts when it's ready. The conversion runs on our server, so it works the same from a phone as from a computer, and there's no app to install.

Does it lose quality?

A small amount, yes, and it's worth saying plainly rather than promising otherwise. MOV and MP4 are both just containers; what matters is the video stream inside, and this re-encodes it with a standard high-quality H.264 setting rather than copying the original bytes. For a normal clip the difference is not visible, but it is a real re-encode, not a lossless repackage.

What happens to the audio?

It comes out as AAC audio, which is what MP4 expects and what plays back everywhere. If the MOV had no audio track, for example a silent screen recording, the MP4 has none either; nothing is added.

Why convert MOV to MP4 at all?

Compatibility, not quality

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. It's what iPhones, iPads and Mac screen recordings save by default, and most Apple software is happy to keep working with it. The moment that file needs to go somewhere non-Apple, an older Windows program, a lot of upload forms, some video editors, MOV support gets patchy fast, while MP4 just works. Converting trades nothing for compatibility: the video itself doesn't improve, it simply stops being a format some software refuses.

Is there a size limit, and is my file kept?

1200 MB and 20 minutes per upload on the free tier. Video larger than 1080p (4K, for example) comes back at 1080p, which keeps the file a reasonable size. The file is processed on our own machine, like every video tool here, and deleted the moment the result is ready, whether the conversion succeeds or fails.

The other formats in the list

WEBM is smaller again and plays in every current browser, but not in older desktop players. MKV keeps everything you throw at it and suits an archive copy. MP4 stays the default here because it plays back on the widest range of devices and software.

Need a different format pair instead? Convert video format handles MP4, MOV, WEBM and more in one place. Only need to cut the clip down first? Trim a video keeps just the part that matters.

Common questions

Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?

A small amount, yes. This re-encodes the video with a standard, high-quality setting (H.264 at a constant quality level), not a byte-for-byte repackaging, so there is a real but usually invisible loss.

What happens to the audio?

It carries over as AAC audio, the format MP4 expects. If the MOV had no sound to begin with, the MP4 has none either.

Is there a size or length limit?

1200 MB and 20 minutes per upload on the free tier, which covers almost any phone clip or screen recording. Video larger than 1080p comes back at 1080p. A paid pass raises the size and length limits.

Is my file kept after conversion?

No. The file is processed on our server and deleted immediately afterward, whether the conversion succeeds or fails.

Why convert MOV to MP4 at all?

Compatibility, not quality. MOV is Apple's QuickTime container, common from iPhone and Mac exports; MP4 is what most non-Apple software, upload forms and players expect by default.

Is it free, with no watermark?

Yes: no account, no watermark, no daily limit.
