Reverse is not the same tool as flip, which mirrors the picture left-to-right or top-to-bottom without touching time, or speed up or slow down, which changes the video speed of the same forward sequence. This one runs the timeline itself backwards, frame by frame, sound included.
Playing something forwards, a browser or a player only ever needs the next frame. Reversing needs the opposite: the very last frame has to be ready before anything can be shown, which means every frame and every audio sample has to be decoded and held before the reversed file can be written at all. That's a fundamentally different job from trimming or speeding a clip up, both of which can stream through the file without ever holding the whole thing at once — and it's the reason this is one of the heavier tools on this site, and why a long or high-resolution clip takes noticeably longer than the others.
