Kindle does not read EPUB. Drop yours in and get a MOBI back that emails or copies straight to the device.

Why Kindle needs MOBI (or AZW3)

Amazon built Kindle around its own formats instead of EPUB, which is what nearly every other e-reader and store uses. MOBI is the older of Amazon's two formats and the one that works on every Kindle ever made, including the original. If you have a Kindle from the last several years, AZW3 keeps a bit more formatting — but MOBI is the safe choice when you are not sure.

Getting it onto the device
  1. Convert the EPUB to MOBI here.
  2. Email the MOBI to your Kindle's own @kindle.com address (find it in Amazon's Manage Your Content and Devices), or
  3. Copy it over USB into the Kindle's documents folder.
About your file

This is the second exception on this site, after the video compressor. A browser cannot rewrite an EPUB's internals into Kindle's MOBI format, so your file is uploaded to our server, converted there, and deleted right after — we keep no copy. Everything else here (HEIC, PNG, WEBP, JPG) still runs entirely in your browser.

Want a fixed page layout instead — good for a comic or a textbook? EPUB to PDF does that.

Common questions

Why won't my Kindle open an EPUB?

Kindle only reads Amazon's own formats — MOBI or AZW3 — not EPUB. Converting here bridges the gap.

Is MOBI or AZW3 better for Kindle?

AZW3 keeps more of the original formatting on current Kindles; MOBI is the safer choice for an older device or if you are unsure which you have.

Is my file uploaded?

Yes — this is one of two tools here that does, along with the video compressor. A browser cannot rewrite an e-book's internal format, so the file goes to our server, converts, and is deleted right after.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no per-file charge.

How do I get the MOBI onto my Kindle?

Email it to your Kindle's @kindle.com address, or copy it over USB into the Kindle's documents folder.
