Phones film in one orientation and write a note in the file saying "show this turned". Some players read that note, plenty do not — which is why the same clip looks fine on your phone and sideways once it is uploaded somewhere. This tool actually turns the pictures instead of leaving a note, so every player agrees. A clip that is already posted on YouTube follows the same rule: you cannot rotate video in YouTube itself, because Studio has no rotate control, so rotate your own file here and upload the corrected copy.

Rotating is not the same as flipping: rotating turns the whole picture, a video flip mirrors it. For mirroring, use flip video. And for a fix inside a bigger project, the rotate control in your video editor does the same job; this page is for when rotating is all you need.
A 90° turn swaps width and height instead of cropping anything: a 1920x1080 landscape clip becomes 1080x1920 portrait, and the other way round. So it works as a vertical to horizontal converter for a clip that was filmed the wrong way, and it can turn a sideways phone clip into a proper horizontal video. It doesn't reframe a landscape shot into a vertical one for TikTok, though: that needs cropping, not rotating.
If the top of your video is currently on the right, you need 90° anticlockwise. If the top is on the left, 90° clockwise. Upside down is 180°. Guessed wrong? Run the result through again — nothing is lost.
The HEIC, JPG, PNG and WebP converters here run entirely inside your browser and never send anything to us; the video tools can't. Turning the actual pictures means re-encoding, which a browser cannot do, so your file is uploaded to our own machine, rotated there, and deleted immediately afterwards — we keep no copy.

The video is re-encoded at a high bitrate, so the difference is not visible in normal viewing, and an MP4 rotate takes seconds for a short clip. Rotating the same file over and over will show eventually; rotate from the original.

YouTube can't do it: Studio's editor has no rotate control, and this tool takes a file, not a URL, so to rotate video online YouTube links are no use. Rotate your own file here and upload it again; for a video that is already online, download your own upload from Studio first. Shorts work the same way.
Only by turning it: rotating goes 90 degrees, so a clip filmed sideways becomes a proper vertical video to horizontal, or back. As a horizontal to vertical video converter it doesn't reframe the shot. To convert horizontal video to vertical for Reels without the picture lying on its side, crop it with the crop tool. To convert horizontal video to vertical online free, the crop tool is the right one. A vertical to horizontal video converter that fills the frame also needs a crop, or black bars. This isn't a vertical video converter in that sense. Need to make video horizontal again after the phone recorded it upright? Rotate 90 degrees.

No: rotate the video in steps of 90 or 180 degrees only. A slight tilt needs an editor with a straighten tool.
